In the absence of Victor Osimhen, Eric Chelle will rely on Ademola Lookman, Tolu Arokodare and Moses Simon to pull the trigger against their host today in Bloemfontein.
”These players have what it takes to score goals against South Africa. I have asked them not to spare them”, he said.
As they go on an all-out attacking play, the backline of Ola Aina, Calvin Bassey, Fredrick Benjamin. and Onyemaechi Bruno must be wary of the threat of Burnley striker Lyle Foster. Their performance against Rwanda, especially in the first half was top notch.
In the midfield, Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi and Frank Onyeka must do everything to provide cover for the defence and distribute killer passes to the attackers.
Chelle charged his forwards to be more clinical in their finishing.
Chelle who has been in charge of three Super Eagles Team A matches have recorded two low score wins (2-0, 1-0 against Rwanda) and one draw(1-1 against Zimbabwe). He was asked when he will unlock the squad’s huge attacking potentials, following a hard-fought win over Rwanda in Uyo. He noted that his team creates a lot of scoring chances but argued that football is not always as fans see it.
“When you watch some football matches, you will be wondering why a team that dominated during the game could not win 10-0 margin. Football is like that.”
However, he admitted to the profligacy of his strikers, saying, “we will try and fix that because we have to be more efficient and clinical,” promising that “God with us, we will have to score a lot of goals on Tuesday.
