Nigeria made her debut at the World Schools Games Golf Championship in St Andrews, Scotland, with five young golfers representing the country at the competition scheduled to September 14–16, 2026.

The Nigerian team comprised Mayomile Orungbeja of St. Gregory’s College, Tiaraoluwa Ahmadu of St. Saviour’s School, Ikoyi, Fireyimi Aina of Lagos Preparatory School, Ikoyi, Toluwalashe Balogun of Lagoon Schools, Lekki, and Melvin Strasser of Meadow Hall School, Lekki.

Competing against young golfers from other countries, the Nigerians recorded notable results, with Balogun finishing runner-up in the Junior Girls category, Ahmadu placing among the top five and Orungbeja securing a top-10 finish in the Junior Boys category.

Team coordinator and 2AT Limited representative, Oluseyi Badmos, said the championship provided the players with valuable international exposure and experience.

“International exposure is an important part of developing young athletes. Opportunities such as this allow our children to compete, learn, build confidence and understand what it takes to perform at a higher level,” Badmos said.

He said the participation was in line with the objectives of “Let’s Play Golf in Schools”, a 2AT Limited grassroots initiative aimed at introducing golf to schoolchildren and creating a pathway to structured training and competitive golf.

Badmos also commended the Lagos State Government, through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), for supporting the introduction of golf to primary school pupils across the state.

He stressed the need for continued collaboration among government, schools, parents and golf stakeholders to expand access to the sport and provide talented youngsters with opportunities to progress to national and international competition.

The debut marks another step in the development of junior golf in Nigeria and highlights the potential of young players when given access to quality training and international competition.
