As controversy rages over the Confederation of Africa Football, CAF’s decision to strip Edo Queens of the WAFU B Africa Women Club title, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, is set to defend club before CAF.
According to an inside source, the NFF legal team met Monday to examine the ruling and possibly defence.
The source hinted that the federation is prepared to ensure CAF upturns the controversial decision, hence the met this yesterday to prepare water-tight response to the ruling.
“The NFF Legal Team is meeting on the issue this morning(Monday),” the source said.
Edo Queens had emerged champions after the original final, played in Ouagadougou on September 5, ended 2-2 after 90 minutes.
The match proceeded directly to penalties, where Edo Queens won 4-1.
CAF itself had initially published Edo Queens as the WAFU B champions and reported the penalty victory.
Now, weeks later, CAF has ruled that the penalty shootout had no sporting effect because the regulations required two 15-minute periods of extra time before penalties.
According to the ruling reported by JoySports, a Ghanaian radio station, CAF found that the omission of extra time resulted from an “erroneous administrative instruction” and the consequent failure of the match officials to apply the applicable regulations.

CAF, according to the station, also stated that the referee acted on the instruction in good faith.
