The Confederation of African Football, CAF has rejected the request sent to it by Rangers International FC of Enugu that the second leg of their Champions League match against MC Alger of Algeria in Algiers be played behind closed doors.
Rangers made the request following the unruly behaviour of supporters of MC Alger after their team lost the first leg 0-2 in Abeokuta.
The Nigerian champions were sceptical about their safety in the return which will be decided today.
CAF’s 3-man Disciplinary Board led by Senegalese Mr. Ousmane Kane said the request has been rejected with a two-paragraph notification without giving any reason for the rejection.
The statement which was signed by Mr. Kane however, stated that, “The Disciplinary Board will open disciplinary proceedings concerning the incidents reported during the first-leg match between Rangers International FC and MC Alger”.
Meanwhile neither Rangers International nor the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF has reacted to the decision by ,CAF.
