Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was at his best again for Galatasaray as he hit a brace in their 2-1 win over Rizespor at the Caykur Didi Stadyumu Monday
The Edo-born striker had missed Galatasaray’s 4-1 loss to AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Europa League playoffs last weekend.
The Super Eagles star seemed lost in the first half, as Rizespor dominated the play and created more chances but he got into the game in the second half taking the opponents’ defence headlong.
It took Osimhen just two minutes into the second half to register his name on the scoresheet. He headed in a cross from Przemyslaw Frankowski for the first goal after 47 minutes despite being closely marked by two Rizespor defenders.
Their lead was shortlived as Ali Sowe scored the equaliser for Rizespor from close range after getting an assist from Nigerian forward Babajide Akintola.
The second half was a ding-dong affair with both sides fluffing chances until Osimhen took the initiative in the 86th minute to score the winner off a header from Mario Lemina.
The win thus gave Galatasaray all three points at Rizespor to maintain their six-point lead over Fenerbahce at the summit of the Super Lig.
