The Flying Eagles, Nigeria’s U-20 men’s national team Sunday qualified for the final of the WAFU B U20 Championship in Ghana after overcoming their Nigerien counterparts in a penalty shootout.
The semi final encounter had ended in a barren drawn after 90 minutes, with the Flying Eagles prevailing 4-3 in the resulting penalty kicks.
In an encounter which the Nigerian lads dominated in most departments, the defending champions found it difficult to break down a resolute Nigerien defence.
They created numerous scoring chances, registering three shots off target in the first half, while the opposition failed to threaten Nigerian goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt.
The second half saw a more aggressive approach from the Nigerian side, who ramped up their offensive pressure.
