Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi has described the 1-1 draw against Bafana Bafana of South African as a sad development for the country’s football as the country will be absent from the World Cup for a second consecutive time.

The Former Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa goalkeeper who was an analyst on Super Sports said he would not describe the current Super Eagles as the worst assemblage of players as tweeted by some Nigerian fans, stressing that the players go through a lot in the hands of the administrators of the game.

“I have been in the team and I know the difficulties the players face from those who manage the game and the players cannot come out and say these things”, he said, adding that “it is sad that as the giant of Africa, Nigeria will not be at the World Cup again.”

Meanwhile Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos commended his players for pulling a vital one point that keeps them firmly rooted as Group C leaders with 17 points, stressing that they are just one point away from qualification.

“The game was like a war, the Nigerians were strong but our players also showed their strength in the way they fought for the ball in the second half. I am satisfied with the one point because we are just a game away from qualification.”
