As the last leg of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers draws nearer, Super Eagles Chief Coach, Eric Chelle’s worry has increased as one of his strikers, Cyriel Dessers was sidelined by ankle injury Sunday when his team, Panathinaikos visited Panetolikos.
Dessers, has been in fine form for Panathinaikos since joining from Scottish giants Rangers. The Super Eagles star has contributed two goals in four appearances for The Shamrock, Soccernet.ng reports.
However, the 30-year-old striker might be up for a short spell on the sidelines. This is as Panathinaikos left him out of the traveling squad for their Greek Super League game against Panetolikos at the Panetolikos Stadium Sunday.
Chelle is in a fix at the moment, as some key members of the team have been sustaining injuries and will likely miss the upcoming FIFA 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin on October 10 and 13 respectively.
Ola Aina, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and Raphael Onyedika have already been ruled out of those games due to varying injuries.
If Dessers is ruled out, it would surely give Chelle a selection headache, as the former Genk man has been called-up to camp in the last two international windows.
