Super Eagles’ goalkeeper Kayode Bankole has completed a move to the South African Betway Premiership after signing a two-year contract with TS Galaxy FC.
The soon-to-be 23-year-old safe hands, formerly of Remo Stars, has built a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most promising goalkeepers.
A two-time NPFL Golden Gloves winner, Bankole recorded an impressive 46 clean sheets in 93 matches before sealing his switch abroad.
His arrival in South Africa adds him to the growing list of Nigerian players making their mark in the South African league.
Notably, he will now share the spotlight with fellow Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who has become a fan favourite at Chippa United following his standout displays for club and country.
At TS Galaxy, Bankole’s signing is a major boost as they look to strengthen their squad and build on their competitive start to the season.
Galaxy were defeated 2-0 by Orlando Pirates in a recent Betway Premiership match, but Kayode’s arrival is expected to bring stability in between the sticks for the South African club.
It is a big step for Kayode as he moves to one of Africa’s most-followed leagues. Although, aside from the spotlight for the Nigerian goalkeeper, it also comes with a lot of pressure.
Another exciting Nigerian talent has now landed in South Africa, and all eyes will be on Bankole to see if he can replicate his NPFL form and push his case for more Super Eagles call-ups
