Former Secretary General of the then Nigeria Football Association {NFA}, Alhaji Sani Ahmed Toro has charged the Super Eagles to be cool headed ahead of the 2026 World Cup Africa and Intercontinental play-offs.
The former Commissioner for Sports in Bauchi State congratulated the Super Eagles, the NFF and Nigerians over the team’s feat in the last group match against Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
“I wish to congratulate the Super Eagles, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Sports loving Nigerians and corporate bodies for the Super Eagles’ qualification for the CAF playoffs in the World Cup qualifying series.
It is a nice thing that they were able to scale through this initial hurdle. The NFF needs to put extra efforts for the Super Eagles to scale through both the African and inter-confederation play-offs tournament in November 2025 and March 2026 for Nigeria to be amongst the last two World Cup slots. Nigerians should continue to support and pray for the success”, he stressed.
Continuing he said that the Super Eagles should be extra careful and put their acts together ahead of the task ahead.
“The Eagles really surprised and made us proud yesterday (Tuesday) against Benin Republic. Most of us didn’t believe that they were going to reach that stage, it was an excellent match, they came out all the way to make us proud. They showed their superiority. I was even wondering what must have happened to the Beninoise coach.
“It’s not yet over, but it’s a relieve. It’s going to be a long journey, so they have to be extra careful. They have to pass the CAF play off, then, FIFA the intercontinental.
It’s a long way, but at least, it’s a relieve for Nigerians now to the extent that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated them, at least that will motivate them for the challenge ahead.
The coach of the team, the NFF and the Technical Director all have to sit down and map a very good strategy ahead of the play off. I like the way thing are going now between the NFF and NSC. The players should be well motivated ahead of the crucial task”
