Former Super Eagles winger and Leventis United legend, James Etokebe has predicted that the team’s journey to the 2026 FIFA World Cup will end in triumph.
He was speaking from his home in Norway following the Super Eagles MatchDay 10 humiliation of Gernot Rohr’s Cheetahs of Benin Republic.
“The beginning wasn’t good enough,” Etokebe admitted in an exclusive chat with KSM, adding that “Those early draws in Uyo were disappointing and created doubts about our chances. But I’m impressed with how the team have found their rhythm again. They’re fighting back like true champions.”
Etokebe’s optimism isn’t blind faith — it’s rooted in experience. Having been part of one of Nigeria’s most talented generations, he understands the resilience it takes to reach football’s biggest stage.
With the CAF World Cup play-offs against Gabon, Cameroon, and DR Congo around the corner, the former Super Eagles winger believes the current squad has rediscovered the fire that defines Nigerian football.
“The tempo is right now. The players are motivated and hungry. If they maintain this energy, I have no doubt Nigeria will qualify,” he said confidently.
As the countdown to next month’s decisive play-off continues, Etokebe’s message is one of faith and encouragement.
“Nigeria belongs on the world stage,” he said. “The boys just need to stay focused, and I’m sure the Eagles will soar again – all the way to the 2026 World Cup.”
