Nigerian-British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua was hospitalized Monday after an auto crash that killed two others on one of Nigeria’s busiest highways.

His most recent opponent, YouTuber turned boxer, Jake Paul, today reacted to the news of the car crash, saying that he is ‘praying for the lost live, AJ, and anyone impacted’

Paul wrote on his X handle, “Life is much more important than boxing. I am praying for the lost lives, AJ and anyone impacted by today’s unfortunate accident.

Police are investigating, local police commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo told BBC News. Officials said Joshua’s injuries were relatively minor and that he would be OK.

“I can confirm to you that an accident occurred and the victim has been taken to the hospital,” Ogunlowo said.

The fatal crash happened at about 11 a.m. local time along the busy Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Makun, Ogun State “under circumstances that are currently being investigated,” Ogun State Police Command said in a statement.

Joshua and three others were headed from Lagos to Sagamu when their Lexus SUV slammed into a truck stopped on the highway, state police recounted, noting that Joshua was in the backseat.

“Preliminary reports indicate that two male foreign nationals died on the spot,” Lagos state commissioner for information Gbenga Omotoso said in a statement on X. “Anthony Joshua and the driver of the vehicle were promptly rescued by security personnel attached to his convoy and taken to a hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention.”

Joshua had “narrowly escaped death,” Omotoso noted.
