Former Super Eagles captain and coach, Sunday Oliseh has offered the winning formula for the Super Eagles to go past Mozambique tonight in Fes and reach the quarter-final of the 2025 AFCON, stressing that beating them will improve the team’s confidence.
The Super Eagles won their first round group in style, but Oliseh, who also captained the team, warned the approach going into the knockout stage of the competition would have to be different.
“We’re clear favourites against Mozambique, but Nigeria have to play in a totally different way because it’s not important how beautiful you play, what matters is the result,” Oliseh explained on his YouTube Channel Global Football Insights
“Now, if you lose, you go home. They have to be compact, stop the opponents from playing and then hit them, like we did against Uganda, which was one of the best games I have seen the Eagles play in a long time.”
He continued: “Mozambique are a very good team, it won’t be an easy match, we can’t afford to take them for granted. If we did, we will take our flight tickets back home.
“Beating them will boost our self-belief and keep the groove going.”
Oliseh said he expects star striker Victor Osimhen to continue to play selflessly for the team.
“He wants to score, it’s in his best interest he scores, but in the last game against Uganda), he played more collective, that’s good,” he said.
“He scored a goal at the last championship and Nigeria went all the way to the final, if he has to score just a goal here than for him to get six goals and we’re out, I will take that.”
