Indeed, the London Unity Cup is fast becoming Super Eagles property.
Soon, the tournament will lose its importance, impact, and relevance following Eagles’ dominance.
While countries are preparing for the World Cup by releasing their team lists, Nigeria is celebrating the London Unity Cup as if it is an AFCON triumph or a World Cup ticket.
Worst still, the players discovered in this tournament often fade away or disappear from the national team.
By the time the team gathers for AFCON qualifiers, you won’t find or see the players who made headlines in the tournament.
They will be excluded to accommodate the big-name players who weren’t part of the tournament.
Some of them were holidaying after excluding themselves from the tournament, or they’re busy sorting out transfer matters while the “ordinary” or new players slug it out to give the team honour.
That’s a wrong approach to building a team… and that is why we are where we are.
