With the 2027 Women’s World Cup already secured, four teams, host Morocco, Cameroon, Algeria and giant-killers Malawi take to the pitch Wednesday to battle for the 2026 WAFON final ticket.
Victory for two of the teams will take them nearer the increased top prize of $2 million prize and the newly introduced trophy at stake.
The first semi final battle comes up at 6 p.m. at the Stade Moulay El Hassan in Rabat between host, Morocco who battle the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon while the second semi final between Algeria and Malawi comes up at 9 p.m. at the Olympic Stadium also in Rabat.
The interesting about the semi finalists is that they all are seeking their first kiss of the trophy as they have never won any of the past 13 editions. Nigeria’s Super Falcons have dominated the competition with 10 wins while Equatorial Guinea come a distan

t second with two wins in 2008 and 2012 while South Africa’s Banyana Banyana’s only victory came in 2022.
Morocco have appeared in two consecutive final matches in 2022 and 2024, losing both to South Africa and Nigeria respectively. They are seeking a third final and would have to stop Cameroon, who have also appeared in two consecutive final matches but lost them to Nigeria whothey stopped at the quarter finals this year.
Both Algeria and Malawi have never qualified for the semi finals. The best result for Algeria in the competition was their 2024 quarter finals while Malawi qualified for the competition for the first time this year and surprisingly have reached the semi final.
