No fewer than 24 grassroots football teams will compete for a total prize money of ₦20 million as the fourth edition of the 1XCup kicks off on September 15 at the Inspire Sports Academy, Oshodi.
The tournament was formally launched on Friday with the group-stage draw, which brought together participating teams, football officials, coaches, players, partners and other stakeholders.
Managing Director of 1XBET Nigeria, Geraldine Ibeanusi, said the competition, which began in 2023, was conceived to discover and develop young football talents at the grassroots level.
According to her, the 1XCup has grown beyond an ordinary football tournament to become a platform for talent discovery, character development, community engagement and youth empowerment.
“When 1X Cup started in 2023, it was born out of a simple but powerful vision to discover, develop and provide opportunities for young football talents at the grassroots level,” Ibeanusi said.
She noted that grassroots football remains the foundation for successful football careers, adding that many celebrated stars started on local community pitches.
The 1XBET Nigeria boss said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to grassroots sports development by giving young players the opportunity to showcase their abilities and pursue their football dreams.
She urged participating teams to approach the 2026 edition with determination, professionalism and respect.
“As we move into the group stage of the 2026 edition, I encourage all participating teams and players to give their very best. Play passionately and professionally, but also with respect.
“Compete strongly, but remember that discipline and sportsmanship are just as important as winning,” she said.
Ibeanusi also appreciated partners, officials, coaches, volunteers and the 1XBET technical crew for their contributions to the success of the tournament since its inception.
