With less than three weeks to the crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against Rwanda in Kigali, the first under new Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, leading scorer, Victor Osimhen has assured Nigerians that he and his team-mates are ready for the battle.

The 2023 African Football of the Year also said that the Super Eagles will correct the errors they made which caused them to earn only three points from a possible 12 after drawing three matches against South Africa, Lesotho and Zimbabwe and losing to Benin Republic which left perching second from the bottom of their group.

“We are really looking forward to the game against Rwanda to correct the mistakes we’ve made in the past World Cup qualifiers. So for me, I think we will be ready,” he told the BBC.

Osimhen, who is making waves in the Turkish league after joining Galatasaray on loan from Serie A side, Napoli and missed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar that could have been his first as the Super Eagles couldn’t qualify, stressed that he would do everything to ensure Nigeria qualifies for the 2026 World Cup because it has always been his dream.

“You have to give everything you know. It’s a dream of every youngster to be at the World Cup. Mine is no exception,” Osimhen stressed.

Nigeria will take on Rwanda on March 17 in Kigali and return to Nigeria to tackle Zimbabwe a week later as they seek to revive their qualification hopes.

With Osimhen leading the attack and current African Footballer of the Year, Ademola Lookman in great form, the Super Eagles will aim for a crucial victory to get their campaign back on track.
