As the first phase of the 2024/25 season of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) comes to an end , champions, Edo Queens Football Club of Benin will today at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium host Ekiti Queens FC in a clash described by pundits as a revenge mission.

It would be recalled that Ekiti Queens who are new comers to the Nigeria Women Football League circle pipped Edo Queens 1-0 last season in Ado -Ekiti, a defeat which came as a surprise to the Benin ladies. This time around however, the hosts believe it is going to be a different ball game.

For Benin City Queens, there will be no hiding place for the Ado -Ekiti Queens in the all important game that will be used to wrap up the first stanza of the NWFL premiership as they be aiming to make it five successive wins when they lock horns at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

The defending Champions are mentally, emotionally and physically ready to display their professional expertise against Ekiti Queens as the fight to take over the driver’s seat in group A hots up between Edo Queens and their arch rivals Remo Stars Ladies of Ikenne.

Edo Queens who occupy 2nd spot in group A with 14 points on the league table, will enter the contest off the back of a 2-0 victory over Confluence Queens last Wednesday. With a record of four wins, two draws and no loss, the girls are ready to do exploit to prove their supremacy over Ekiti Queens.

Meanwhile, the Desmond Enabulele-led Board of the State Sports Commission has thrown its weight behind Edo Queens, urging the ladies not to underrate the visitors.

“I want to inform you all that we are solidly behind you. I don’t expect you to underrate your opponents in tomorrow’s (today) encounter, because no team is a push over in football. What we expect from you is nothing but total victory. You all know that a win in tomorrow’s cracker will do us a lot of good, so go out there and beat the Ado- Ekiti girls”, the Sports Commission boss said.
