Former Super Eagles defender Sunday Ebiogbe, has said that the World Cup cracker against Rwanda in Kigali on March 17 will be an acid test for the team’s new head coach Eric Chelle.

Worried by the lackadaisical attitude of some of the foreign-based players towards national duties, Ebiogbe said that the Super Eagles might be in for a tough task in Kigali if the technical expertise needed for the players to excel is lacking.

The former Bendel Insurance player called on the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF to rally round Chelle and his team to ensure the success of the team in the race to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“For us to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, the Super Eagles must give their all in this crucial qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe. This is going to be an acid test for the new head coach Eric Chelle, and hands must be on deck to have Eagles pick the World Cup ticket”.

Super Eagles technical adviser Eric Chelle, will take charge of the national team for the first time in March when they take on Rwanda and Zimbabwe respectively in World Cup qualifiers.

Though down with illness for the past 15 years, the former defender has never hidden his passion for the Super Eagles. Even on his sick bed he talks football and prays always for the success of all the national teams each.

” I don’t understand what is happening to our football. Nigeria is blessed with football talents scattered across the globe, we are supposed to have one of the best national teams in Africa. During our days in football, other African countries feared us, but today, we fear even when we want to play Benin Republic. Why is it difficult for the managers to get the best legs for our national team,” he queried.
