Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reiterated government’s commitment in returning Edo State back to top the top Nigeria’s sports.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Hon. Fred Itua who disclosed this in a chat with the media officer of Edo Queens, Ojieva Ehiosun in Benin City urged the team to be focused and maintain the winning sprit which they are known for.
He averred that the Edo State government is totally committed to making the State the number one in sports in the country as he charged Edo Queens to intensify their efforts as they begin the last lap of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) campaign for the Super 6 which will give birth to the continental ticket.
Edo Queens who are currently the defending champions of the NWFL, left Benin City on Monday for Iiorin, Kwara State where they will trade tackles with Ekiti Queens of Ado- Ekiti in NWFL match day 8.
“I want to congratulate the entire team for their excellent performance in the first stanza of the Nigeria Women Football League, NWFL. As defending champions, Edo Queens are also potential champions for the new season. It is important to let the team know that the Governor is very happy with the progress of the team. He said I should tell them that he is solidly behind them and wants them to go out there and conquer. He is very keen in having Edo Queens FC represent Nigeria again in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
“This government is totally committed to capacity building, and sports is the easiest way to do this, this is why the governor is doing everything to make sure he puts Edo State sports back to her premier position in the annals of Nigeria sports.”
