Edo-born Greece-based former national team player, Joseph Carlos Egharevba, aka ‘Yamaha’ has called on the Super Eagles to be hungry for 2026 World Cup ticket.
In a telephone chat from his base in Greece, the erstwhile Bendel Insurance and New Nigeria Bank utility player said that the Eric Chelle-led team have all it takes to beat Rwanda and Zimbabwe respectively.
“My fears for the present Super Eagles players is that we no longer have strong-willed players in the national team. We were not in the last World Cup, this alone should give the Eagles some concern. In our days in football, we didn’t fear any country, we were totally committed to representing Nigeria at any level. It was a plus for us to wear the Green and White colours, today is about money.”
“The major problem we have in Nigeria football system is purely administrative. Instead of our football managers doing things that will enhance the progress of the FA, they are busy looking for how to milk the treasury. They keep changing coaches, who don’t play their written script and do what they want. Is it not a shame that Nigeria that is blessed with football stars did not go to the last World Cup.
If we are to excel in our FA, our managers must have zero tolerance to corruption and also give free hands to the coaches to operate.”
“For the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the Super Eagles must put in extra energy to be able to beat Rwanda and Zimbabwe. Rwanda will be tough because they are going to use everything at their disposal to fight Nigeria. But be it as it may, Eagles will qualify for the Mundial,” he surmised.
