Defending champions Edo Queens Football Club of Benin Wednesday at the IIorin Township Stadium in Kwara State humbled the hard fighting Ekiti Queens 1-0 in a match day 8 encounter of the Nigeria Women Football League, NWFL.
The Benin City based ladies went into the season’s restart with a renewed hope and confidence against the homers, Ekiti Queens FC in pursuit of the NWFL Super 6 title.

Prior to the showdown, Edo Queens convincingly overpowered the Ado-Ekiti girls in match day 07 game played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City a few weeks ago 3-0.
The Ilorin  encounter will mark the fifth time both teams are meeting themselves in a competitive showpiece.

Both teams exhibited high level of professionalism on the pitch, but Edo Queens dominated the proceedings, while Ekiti Queens were soaking in the pressure and defending massively.

New sign- on for Edo Queens, Rebecca Adegbemile, broke the deadlock in the  68th minute when she netted in the first goal for her side.
Ekiti Queens did all they could to level up but the defence of Edo Queens was a hard nut for the host team to crack.
With this victory, Edo Queens have continued their unbeaten run and now have 17 points from eight games,
Edo Queen’s winning train will move to Abia State next week Wednesday to have a date with Abia Angels in a match day 09 of the NWFL.
Meanwhile there has been accolades coming from football pundits across the State commending the players on their victory over Ekiti Queens. With few matches to go for the season, it is certain that Edo State will have their flag hoisted at the Super 6 as they are favoured for the trophy and the continental slot.

The Benin City ladies are most likely to return to the top position on the eight- team group log, depending on the outcome of the game between Nasarawa Amazons and group leaders Remo Stars Ladies which will take place today in Lafia.
