A fatal accident involving the Kano State contingent to the just concluded 22nd National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State has resulted in the loss of lives among athletes.
The tragic accident said to have occurred on the Dakatsalle bridge, approximately 50 kilometres from Kano is reported to have resulted in the deaths of at least 22 athletes from the Kano State team who were returning from the National Sports Festival held in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Numerous others sustained injuries during the incident.
Umar Bala Fagge, the Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, verified that a bus transporting 30 athletes plunged off the bridge, leading to 19 deaths at the site.
Ado Salisu, the former Vice President of SWAN, indicated that additional victims were being transported to Kura General Hospital.
