Ebonyi State’s Federation Cup champions, Abakaliki Football Club’s giant-killing form ended Saturday in the final of the 2025 Federation Cup decided at the 10,000 capacity Mobolaji Johnson Arena at Onikan in Lagos.
The nascent FA Cup team handled by Ifeanyi Onyedikachi stretched the more experienced Ilorin-based Kwara United throughout the 90 minutes and extra time without any goal from both sides.
The match went into straight penalties with Kwara United missing their first kick taken by Akeem Akanni while Abakaliki scored their first two.
Luck however, ran out of the Ebonyi side as they missed their second and third kicks through Emeka Ugwu and Uche Amarachi while Kwara United scored all remaining four kicks to wrap up the game 4-3 after the barren draw at full and extra time.
Both teams were equally matched in the fiercely contested game with the Ebonyi boys having three shots on target to Kwara’s four from their seven and eight total shots respectively.
