Nigerian music star Burna Boy has congratulated England women’s national team coach, Sarina Wiegman, after she won the prestigious Johan Cruyff Award for the Best Coach in the World at the Ballon d’Or Awards held on Monday.

Wiegman emerged winner ahead of Nigeria’s Super Falcons coach, Justine Madugu, as well as other top contenders including Arsenal’s Renee Slegers, Arthur Elias of Brazil, and Lyon’s Sonia Bompastor.

In a surprising and light-hearted moment during her acceptance speech, Wiegman referenced Burna Boy, saying: “If Burna Boy is around, maybe we could do a bit of dancing.”

The comment stems from Burna Boy’s earlier performance for the England women’s team during their trophy tour after winning the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025. Wiegman’s remark quickly caught public attention and was warmly received by the Nigerian singer.

Responding via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Burna Boy wrote: “Haha, I’m up for it Sarina! A huge congrats to you and the team.”

Though Wiegman ultimately claimed the award, Justine Madugu made history by becoming the first-ever coach of the Super Falcons to be nominated for the Johan Cruyff Award. His achievement is viewed as a significant milestone for Nigerian women’s football.

Madugu’s nomination followed Nigeria’s dominant performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where the Super Falcons won all their matches and claimed a record-extending tenth title.

The former Plateau United coach is now focused on building on this success and bringing more glory to the Super Falcons in future competitions.
