As the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season begins Wednesday across the country, former WAFU-B Champions, Edo Queens are already in Yenagoa prepared to confront the defending champions, Bayelsa Queens FC in a matchday 1 fixture of the new season which has been tagged the star match of the season opener.
Kickoff time is 4:00 pm at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Excitement has been building among fans ahead of the big clash between the former champions, Edo Queens and the reigning champions, Bayelsa Queens FC.
The coach Moses Aduku managed Edo Queens, are no doubt on a mission to reclaim the league title, a dream fueled by the desire to represent Nigeria on the continental stage again after their exploits in the 2023/24 season when they won the league for the first time and went ahead to conquer west Africa before reaching the last four in the CAF Champions League proper.
Recent memories of a significant victory over Bayelsa in the 2023/2024 season heightens the anticipation, coupled with Bayelsa’s narrow win in a pre-season tournament, following a penalty shootout as well as the influence of Edo Queens in the transfer market.
With the strong support from the state government, management, and devoted fans, Edo Queens look good to get a good result in Yenagoa against the ‘Prosperity Girls’ and go far as the new season unfolds.
Meanwhile, Edo State Sports Commission Chairman Hon. Desmond Amadi Enabulele is expected to be in Yenogua with members of his board to cheer his girls to victory.
