Sunderland make comeback history, beat Bournemouth 3-2

by Patrick Omorodion

SUNDERLAND went fourth in the Premier League after an incredible 3-2 comeback win Saturday against Bournemouth thanks to Brian Brobbey’s winner.

The Cherries had broken the deadlock in the seventh minute after Antoine Semenyo’s shot hit the post and Amine Adli tapped home the rebound.

And the visitors then doubled their lead in stunning fashion as Tyler Adams lobbed Sunderland keeper Robin Roefs from the centre-circle.

The hosts later pulled one back thanks to Enzo Le Fee’s penalty to cap off a frantic first half.

And they got their equaliser immediately after the break as Bertrand Traore was picked out by Granit Xhaka and rolled his effort into the corner.

Bournemouth thought they had retaken the lead moments later when Evanilson converted Semenyo’s cross but the flag went up.

Sunderland then took the lead for the first time to complete their magnificent turnaround as Brian Brobbey headed home from a corner.

There were tense scenes at the end after a series of fouls and yellow cards in the final minutes – before sub Lewis Cook was sent off for the visitors in the closing stages.
