Former Super Eagles mercurial midfielder Etim Esin has called for urgent reforms in the country’s football system following the country’s failure to qualify for two consecutive FIFA World Cups.
Speaking in a chat with Brila.net, Esin stressed the need for a clear long term plan, urging authorities to begin early preparations for the next World Cup.
He also questioned the continued presence of the current technical department of the NFF, noting that it has overseen repeated failures without accountability.
“Let’s call a spade a spade, you failed twice to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, it’s not acceptable.
”How we are going to work towards getting someone who would make sure we qualify for the next World Cup is what we should be thinking about now. We need a long term plan with someone who can turn the table around for the country.”
“The technical department too, what are they doing, Eguavoen (Austin) and co have been the head of the technical department. For two consecutive world cups we didn’t qualify yet you people are still there.”
“We have people like Michael Emenalo who has proven that he is capable, and the experience of someone like Mikel (Obi) will help our fortunes,” Esin suggested.
Nigeria’s absence from back to back World Cups has heightened public concern, with many echoing Esin’s call for changes within the technical department and a fresh approach to ensure qualification for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
