FC Barcelona Tuesday exited the Champions League this season at the quarter-final stage against Atletico Madrid on 2-3 aggregate despite winning the second leg 2-1 in Madrid prompting Gavi to say that Atletico Madrid scored them.
Utterly dominant both in the first and second legs, Hansi Flick’s men ran up against a brick wall. The frustration of this elimination matched the depth of their disappointment at the final whistle, as shown by Gavi’s daring post-match comments.
“This elimination hurts us. We’re much better than Atletico, but in the end, what matters is putting the ball in the back of the net, and they scored more than we did. We completely dominated them throughout the match. But all it takes is one chance for them and they score, and that’s it, we’re out, time to go home. That’s exactly what happened,” the young midfielder told TNT Sports.
