Enyimba head coach Emmanuel Deutsch says the Peoples Elephant remain on course to finishing the season on good note despite weekend derby defeat to Rangers international.
His boys according to him played well in the encounter and also scored first before the Flying Antelopes turned the table. He described the defeat as a “temporary stumble” adding that Enyimba’s attention has already shifted to what comes next.
“Losing such a derby game away isn’t that bad. It wasn’t a bad game. We scored the first goal; they equalised and scored the second. Both sides needed the three points, and Rangers appeared to show more hunger for it” he said With 43 points from 35 games, Enyimba are not yet safe. The Aba landlords have three fixtures left to collect the points needed to guarantee their NPFL status for next season.
The result ended Enyimba’s four-game unbeaten run and left the People’s Elephant sitting 13th on the table with 43 points and just three matches remaining in the campaign.
Enyimba will have the opportunity to earn vital points when they host Remo Stars on Sunday at the Aba Township Stadium.
Rangers shot back to the top of the league table following the victory over Enyimba, but it was different strokes for Rivers United as their 2-0 defeat by Kano Pillars forced the pride of Rivers back to the second position on the log.
