All roads lead to the Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS) this weekend as it hosts the Ignatius Aigbokhaode @ 60 Birthday Pro-Am Invitational Golf Tournament.
The tournament teed off yesterday with the Caddies and Eaglets events, while professional golfers are set to take to the course today. The competition will run through to Saturday, April 25, when it reaches its grand finale.
The four-day event will feature over 250 golfers drawn from across Nigeria, bringing together professionals and amateurs on the Benin fairways to celebrate Ignatius Aigbokhaode—widely known as IG—on the occasion of his diamond jubilee.
Blending top-level competition with camaraderie, the tournament promises a festival of skill, sportsmanship, and celebration in honour of Aigbokhaode, a past captain of the club.
Participants will compete across multiple categories, with the event designed to reflect IG’s passion for golf and his enduring impact on the sport and its community.
Chairman of the Organising Committee, Hon. Andrew Momodu, described the tournament as a fitting tribute to a man whose friendship, leadership, and love for golf have united players for decades.
“Today’s event features invited top professional golfers from across Nigeria, while Friday’s schedule includes men’s handicap 13–28, ladies’ handicap 29–36, as well as veteran and super veteran categories.
“Saturday marks the grand finale, featuring men’s handicap 0–12, ladies’ handicap 0–28, invited guests, and special guests. The presentation of prizes to winners across all categories is scheduled for 6 p.m., followed by entertainment.
“The tournament is hosting golfers from Ogunnu Golf Resort; Ibori Golf and Country Club, Asaba; Sapele Athletic Golf Club; UBTH Golf Club, Benin City; Ikoyi Golf Club, Lagos; Port Harcourt Golf Club; Arsenal Golf Club, Owerri; IBB Golf and Country Club, Abuja; among others.
“We are using this platform to announce that the IG @ 60 celebration at BCGS will be loud and memorable.”
