The coast is clear, the dye is cast, the stage is set  the NWFL premiership regular season is done and dusted, given birth to the Super six. Time to separate the ladies from the girls has come, time for the good, the bad, and the ugly is now. Time to laugh and time to be sober and finally, time to determine who wears the glamorous NWFL Super six crown is just few days from now.

Rivers State is the host for the six participating NWFL  teams who are already roaring and warming up   to show their stuff.

Call it  battle royale, call it titanic   battle, call it fight to finish, call it  battle of six elephants, you are right. But what matters most  is that at the end of this fierce encounter,  one team would  be crowned champions of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) premiership and  Nigeria would also have her flag hoisted  at the WAFU- B and CAF Women Champions League fiesta for 2026.

If you ask me I will kindly tell you that it is Edo Queens.

The much anticipated battle will commence Friday June 5th, 2026, in the Garden City of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, a State known for her hospitality were social life is at its peak.

For the participating teams,  it is real football business,  a competition were old records are broken and new ones set, a competition were various club coaches and managers will be accessed based on capacity, competence, technicalities as well as their inadequacies exposed.

It is also an  opportunity for the players to show their stuff, a competition  were the good the bad and the ugly will be exposed in all areas of the round leather game. A competition were the fate of club managers will be determined by their various employers.  It is also an opportunity for players to renew contracts or get new ones. Finally it will also give Nigerian football pundits an opportunity to access the organizational capacity of those managing the NWFL .

For the purpose of history let’s take a statistical look at the various  clubs participating  in this year’s Super Six based on  their track records till date.

EDO QUEENS FC OF BENIN:

It is no longer news that Edo Queens have become a house hold name in the annals of African Women Football. They are also one of the highly rated teams in the Nigeria Women Football League NWFL premiership. The club was formerly called ‘INNE QUEENS’ before it metamorphosed into Edo Queens when it was taken over by the Edo State government during the tenure of Comrade Adams Oshomhole as governor of the State.

Edo Queens from inception have been one of the best managed women club sides in the country because of the solid foundation laid for sports development by late Dr. Samuel Osaigbovo  Ogbemudia.
Then (Bendel State), now Edo State has become the hub of Nigeria of Sports.

Edo Queens, as it were, have done very well in the history of the Nigeria Women Football League premiership (NWFL). They won a medal in Bauchi 2000.
Highly respected indigenous coaches have managed Edo Queens since inception.
Coach Ken Aigbe, Late Pa Godwin Izilein, Rollanson Odeh, and  Stanley Seyi Osazee. Other non Edo coaches that have also tested the sensitive position are late Sunny Iwegbu,  Mathew Wemimo and Moses Aduku.

However, Edo Queens got to the pinnacle under the current coach Moses Aduku, who won the first ever league trophy for the club in the 2023/2024 NWFL premiership season and went on to represent Nigeria at the continental level were he conquered and won the WAFU-B laurel.

Edo Queens have also won some pre- season tournaments under him. He has also taken the team to the  semifinals stage  of the President Federation Cup where he lost 2-0 to Nasarawa Amazons in 2025.

Edo Queens have participated in almost all the editions of the Super 6 till date. They are currently in Rivers State to conquer again as the quest for Super 6 glory begins this weekend.

BAYELSA QUEENS FC.

Another good side from the Niger/Delta region. It was founded in the year 2000 by late Elder John Pinaowei. Originally started as Garden City Angels.
They have also made history in the annals of African Women Football.  Champions of the NWFL premiership title a number of times.  They have also represented Nigeria at the CAF level twice. They also won pre- season tournament as well as the President Federation Cup. They are not a team to push over. They are the defending champions of the NWFL, and are already in Port Harcourt for
 the supremacy battle.

Coach Moses Aduku, took them to win the NWFL premiership title two times, won the President Federation Cup once and also the Champions of Champions Cup.

RIVERS ANGELS FC

A big name in Nigeria and Africa women football.  Established and started as Larry Angels FC by Prince Lawrence Ezeh, a native of Mbaise in Imo State. They have won the NWFL premiership title a number of times, won the FA Cup too ann have also represented Nigeria at CAF level. Currently the host State for this year’s edition of the Super 6.

They have an experienced coach in Tosan blankson who is equally here to fight for laurels. He has an edge  over others because of the home support. But modern day football is full of intrigues and surprises and it is the best team that carry the day.

NASARAWA AMAZONS  FC

Very prominent name in the Nigeria Women Football League NWFL premiership. Was  established in 2003. One of the big women football club in the North. Tutored by another experienced coach Dr. Christopher Danjuma. Nasarawa Amazons have attended few editions of the Super 6.

They have also won the FA Cup and pre- season tournament to their credit. Nasarawa Amazons are the pride of the North when you talk about women football. They are presently in Rivers State to fight for honours in this Super 6 battle.

FC ROBO QUEENS OF LAGOS

FC Robo Queens is privately owned and managed by Emmanuel Osahon, an Edo State-born coach but Lagos-based. He is a guru in women football management with his name written in gold for women football. He is a very serious minded man in football business. Known for grass root development,  he has raised and taken so many Lagos girls away from the streets through football.

FC Robo as one of the giants in NWFL, have participated in major women football competition in the land. Some times winner of Betsy Obaseki Women Football pre- season tournament (BOWFT) held in Benin- City. FC Robo who top group B are now in Rivers State to fight for glory  in the  NWFL Super 6 battle.

ABIA ANGELS FC.
Abia Angels are a state owned team. It was founded in  2008, formerly known as Ologa FC.
They suffered some setbacks earlier in the formative years. They have had their presence felt in the Nigeria Womenf Football League NWFL .

Despite all odds, they did very well during the regular league season. they fought galantly to qualify for the Super 6. They are one of the underdogs  in this competition.  Being their first appearance in Super 6, they are here to make a statement. And one of the teams to watch out for.

The coaches and teams to watch out for  in this fight to finish battle are:
Edo Queens (Moses Aduku), Rivers Angels (Tosan Blankson), Bayelsa Queens. (Whyte Ogbonda) and Nasarawa Amazons ( Dr. Christopher Danjuma). Emmanuel Osahon of FC Robo Queens
