Haaland sends Norway on Brazil’s path in last 16

by Patrick Omorodion

Man City hitman, Erling Haaland’s 86th minute tap from Patrick Berg’s cross was all Norway needed last night to win 2-1 and sail into the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup at the expense of hardfighting Cote d’Ivoire.

Antonio Nusa, the Norwegian forward of Nigerian descent gave the Scandinavians the lead in the 40th minute but Cote d’Ivoire’s Man United wizkid Amad Diallo restored parity after he took on the Norwegian defence in a Messi-like move in the 74th minute.

The west African side who had more ball possession in the game were however timid in front of goal and could not convert their chances.

A last gasp freekick effort by Diallo in stoppage time was brilliantly parried by
Orjan Nyland in goal for Norway.
