Team Nigeria’s 100m hurdles sensation Tobi Amusan begins her quest for a third consecutive Commonwealth title at the Scoutstoun Stadium in Glasgow on Thursday.
She would be facing eight others in Heat 1. They are Evonne Briton of Ghana, Deya Erickson – Australia, Mariam Abdul-Rasheed – Canada, Marion Fourie – South Africa, Kerrice Hill – Jamaica, Emma Nwofor – England and Maya Rollins from Barbados.
Amusan first emerged the Commonwealth Games champion at the 2018 Games held in Gold Coast, Australia when she powered home in 12.68 secs and defended her title in 2022 in Birmingham, England after returning in a new Games record of 12.30secs.
Another win in Glasgow would make the world record holder a triple Commonwealth gold medalist and the first to win it three consecutive times.
Meanwhile Team Nigeria’s athletes are among the semi-finalists in the women and men’s 400m to be decided on Thursday.
Patience Okon George and Esther Elo Joseph are in semi final 1 of the women’s race while Ella Onojuvwevwo will run in semi final 3.
In the men’s 400m, Samuel Ogazi is listed in semi final 1 while Edidiong Okon Udo will run in semi final 3.
The top two finishers from the three semi ginals will qualify automatically for the final and would be joined by two fastest losers.
