‎World 100m hurdles record holder, Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan, Thursday lost in her bid to win a third consecutive  Commonwealth Games gold in the event at the ongoing Games in Glasgow.

The reigning Commonwealth champion was unable to recover from a slow start as she settled for the bronze medal trailing behind Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton who won the gold and Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds who finished second to take silver.

‎Amusan had gone into the final as one of the favourites after producing an impressive performance in the semi-finals, where she qualified fastest and raised hopes of becoming the first athlete to win three successive Commonwealth Games titles in the event.

However, the Nigerian star was unable to reproduce that form in the final as Charlton dominated the race from the start to secure the biggest prize.

Despite missing out on a third straight gold, Amusan’s bronze medal adds another major international podium finish to her impressive résumé.
