A blockbuster quarter-final showdown is on the cards at the 2026 WAFCON with the Super Falcons of Nigeria set to face the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon for a place in the last four and an automatic ticket to the Women’s World Cup.

The eagerly anticipated encounter comes up Sunday at the Larbi Zaouli stadium in Casablanca, with kick-off set for 6 pm.

Cameroon go into the tie full of confidence after sealing top spot in Group D with two consecutive victories. The Lionesses defeated Ghana and Mali to secure early qualification for the knockout stage before rounding off with a 1-1 draw with Cape Verde in the last group match.

Under coach Valentine Nguene, the Lionesses have impressed with disciplined performances and attacking efficiency with Marie Gisele Ngah Mangah emerging as the tournament’s standout player after her goals in the group stage.

Nigeria also progressed to the quarter finals after a strong campaign and will once again rely on their experience and quality as they pursue a record.

The fixture renews one of Africa’s biggest rivalries in women’s football. The two nations have produced several memorable encounters over the years, including the 2016 WAFCON final in Yaounde where the Falcons edged the Lionesses 1-0 to claim the title.

With both sides boasting rich histories and ambitions to lift the crown plus a World Cup ticket, Sunday’s encounter has all the trappings of the battle of Titans.

Other fixtures will see Cote d’Ivoire taking on Algeria and Morocco against South Africa  Saturday., while on Sunday Malawi will confront Ghana in the other quarter final pairing.
