Nigeria’s efforts to reform and reposition its football administration have received a major boost after FIFA expressed support for the ongoing Normalisation Committee process aimed at restoring credibility, transparency and stability to the game.

The development followed a meeting between FIFA and a Nigerian delegation in which recent developments within the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, and the proposed road-map for football reforms were discussed.

Nigeria was represented at the meeting by National Sports Commission, NSC, Chairman, Shehu Dikko, Director-General Bukola Olopade, the acting NFF General Secretary, Emmanuel Ikpeme and lawyer Okey Obi.

The Nigerian delegation is understood to have briefed FIFA on the latest developments in the NFF, particularly the mass resignation of its president Ibrahim Musa Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi and members of the NFF Executive Committee.

The talks also centered on the proposed road-map for reforming Nigerian football, with emphasis on ensuring that the process is undertaken in consultation with FIFA and other relevant stakeholders in the football community.

FIFA’s backing is being viewed as an important development for Nigeria, where calls for fundamental changes in football administration have intensified amid concerns over the credibility and effectiveness of the existing structure.
