Vanguard FC etched their names in gold at the prestigious NUJ Media Games after delivering a masterclass performance to defeat Lagos Television FC 3-0 in a thrilling final at the Keke Primary School in Agege Friday.
From the opening whistle, Kirikiri warriors dictated the tempo of the game, showcasing superior tactical discipline and relentless attacking intent.
LTV FC fought valiantly to find a breakthrough, but they were consistently frustrated by a well-organized opponent that looked determined to claim the ultimate prize from the onset.
The deadlock was broken in a dazzling first-half display by Ebere Ezekwem, whose clinical brilliance proved too much for the LTV defense.
Ezekwem first found the back of the net with a sublime finish to put his side ahead, before capitalizing on a defensive lapse to score his second goal moments later, sending the VML fans into wild jubilation.
Despite LTV’s desperate attempts to mount a comeback before the interval, VML’s defense anchored by goalkeeper Collins Enenmoh stood firm, pulling off a series of crucial, acrobatic saves to preserve the clean sheet.
As LTV pushed bodies forward in search of a lifeline in the second half, VML sealed the victory with a masterstroke from the bench. Substitute Ike Francis made an immediate impact upon his introduction, exploiting the tiring opposition legs to slot home the third and final goal with absolute composure.
The final whistle sparked euphoric celebrations as Vanguard FC lifted the coveted NUJ Games trophy aloft, capping off an unforgettable tournament run defined by resilience, teamwork, and tactical superiority.
