2027 AFCON Qualifier: Tanzania arrive in Uyo five days before kick-off

by Patrick Omorodion

Tanzania are due to arrive in Uyo on Sunday November 8, five days before their AFCON 2027 qualifier against the Super Eagles, while many of Eric Chelle’s Europe-based players will join only after their weekend club games.

Nigeria play the Taifa Stars at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Friday 13 November, with the return in Dar es Salaam on 17 November. Nigeria have three points from two Group L games and trail leaders Guinea-Bissau, who have six, after a 3-0 defeat in Bissau in September.

Tanzania have yet to win in the group, with a 2-0 loss to Guinea-Bissau and a 1-1 draw with Madagascar. As co-hosts with Kenya and Uganda, they have already qualified for AFCON 2027, as Afrik-Foot noted.

Tanzania coach

Coach Miguel Gamondi has named 24 players, 12 based at home and 12 abroad. Afrik-Foot reported that he wants his side to press, keep possession and attack rather than only defend.
