Mamelodi Sundowns will face Algerian giants USM Alger in the CAF Super Cup on Sunday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria after the pair emerged victorious in CAF’s two premier interclub competitions.
The annual showpiece pits the winners of the CAF Champions League against the reigning CAF Confederation Cup champions in a winner-takes-all encounter for continental supremacy.
Sundowns head into the clash as former winners of the competition, having lifted the trophy in 2017 with a 1-0 victory over TP Mazembe. USM Alger also know what it takes to conquer the continent, having won the 2023 edition with a 1-0 triumph over Al Ahly.
Already qualified for the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup, Sundowns enjoyed success on the global stage earlier this year when they defeated Saudi Arabian opposition to lift the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. However, the Brazilians later suffered a major continental setback when they were knocked out of the CAF Champions League by Angolan side Wiliete.

The CAF Super Cup therefore offers Miguel Cardoso’s side an immediate opportunity to return to winning ways on the continent and add a second Super Cup title to their trophy cabinet, while USM Alger will also be chasing a second crown in the competition.
