The 65th edition of the FirstBank of Nigeria Limited-sponsored Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship will tee off at the Golf Section of Ikoyi Club 1938 on November 16, with a total prize purse of N34.5 million earmarked for the professional category with the eventual winner set to receive N10 million.
The annual championship, which has continued to attract golfers from within and outside Nigeria, will feature a series of activities culminating in the main competition.
The caddies’ competition will take place on November 16, followed by the Championship Kitty on Wednesday, while the Corporate Challenge for Charity is scheduled for Thursday, November 19.
The main event, which is open to amateur golfers with handicaps of 0-9, will be played over 54 holes from November 20 to 22.
Speaking at the pre-tournament briefing in Lagos, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of FirstBank, Olusegun Alebiosu, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to the development of golf and its continued sponsorship of the championship.
Alebiosu, who was represented by Nnaemeka Ejeh, Group Executive, Commercial Banking, South Division, said golf embodies values that align with FirstBank’s corporate philosophy.
“In the game of golf, success is never accidental; it is earned through discipline, patience, strategic thinking and an unwavering commitment to excellence. These values equally define FirstBank,” he said.
He noted that golf goes beyond scores and competition, describing it as a sport that tests mental strength, focus and consistency while demanding continuous improvement.
“While achievements on the golf course matter, equally important are focus, fair play, discipline and integrity,” he added.
