For the first time in his career, Lionel Messi faces one of his former sides as PSG and Inter Miami clash in Atlanta at the Round of 16 stage of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup (CWC).
As reigning champions of Europe, PSG will be desperate to win the CWC for the first time and their showing in the group stage highlighted their credentials. Wins against Atlético Madrid and Seattle Sounders – either side of a shock 1-0 loss to Botafogo – mean that Luis Enrique’s men enter this clash having won seven of their last eight matches, scoring 2+ goals in each victory.
Given that form, Inter Miami could struggle to hold PSG off, though a big win against Porto – coupled with draws against Al Ahly and Palmeiras – in the group stage emphasise that the MLS side aren’t just here to make up the numbers.
That strong showing means that they come into this game unbeaten across their last six, three wins and three draws, finding the back of the net 16 times in the process.
This will be the first-ever meeting between PSG and Inter Miami, though it’s the Parisians’ second against MLS opposition after beating Seattle 2-0 on matchday three of the group stage.
Inter Miami also played European opposition for the first time in the group stage, coming from a goal down to beat Porto 2-1.
All of PSG’s last four wins came by multiple-goal margins and were accompanied by a clean sheet.
PSG’s joint-heaviest defeat in non-domestic competition came in March 2017 against a Barcelona side in which Inter Miami trio Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Sergio Busquets all played.
Inter Miami have kept just one clean sheet in their last 13 matches across all competitions.
Inter Miami have faced 10+ shots in each of their CWC matches so far.
